Kiosk Gand is an innovative project located in the Gand district of the municipality of Eppan-Appiano, designed to strengthen local supply and foster social connections by creating a multifunctional kiosk as a neighborhood meeting place. The project was developed and implemented through a participatory process from May to November 2024, building on a usage concept initially crafted in 2022.
Recognizing the importance of social networks and community engagement, the project actively involves local residents as experts in their living environment. This participation empowers them to co-design the kiosk’s form, function, and management, ensuring it truly reflects community needs while fostering a sense of belonging, identification, and shared responsibility.
The participatory approach included a community survey, a “Gand Café” event, and a future workshop, allowing residents to voice their ideas and concerns. These activities helped define concrete steps for activating the kiosk and embedding it into the daily life of Gand, particularly addressing the current absence of a social gathering spot and local supply option in the upper area, Obere Gand.
Kiosk Gand exemplifies sustainable neighborhood development by encouraging self-initiative and cooperation, creating a flexible, multifunctional space tailored to serve and connect the community. This forward-looking project highlights the vital role of inclusive planning in building resilient, vibrant neighborhoods that benefit all residents.
