The mobility development program for Völs am Schlern is part of the municipal development program (GProRL) under Provincial Law 9/2018. It was developed by LIA together with Studio Theil and the local population. The program analyzes traffic flows, commuting patterns, and tourist influences as the basis for future-oriented transport planning.
The challenges are clear: more than one third of the population commutes out of the municipality every day, overnight stays have doubled, while transport infrastructure has hardly been expanded.
The program develops solutions for cycling, pedestrian networks, and public transport—and considers mobility as an integral part of spatial development. Transport routes are understood as defining elements of the townscape and landscape. Ecological connectivity is also taken into account, for example through amphibian protection measures.
The work follows the Provincial Plan for Sustainable Mobility 2035 and contributes to South Tyrol’s climate goals.
