The municipality of Vahrn launched an urban design competition for the development of the new "Pardelwiesen" district on the former military area. The central challenge was to create a forward-looking residential area that remains livable despite its proximity to high-noise infrastructure such as the highway, while also serving as a vital link between neighboring areas. The competition sought innovative solutions for sustainable living that address the social and ecological needs of our time.
The new "Pardelwiesen" district is set to become a vibrant and diverse part of the municipality of Vahrn, despite its proximity to high-noise infrastructure. Thanks to its strategic location and good transport connections, it serves as a link between the upper and lower villages and represents an important transition toward the Elisabeth settlement in the direction of Brixen. The project focuses on identity-creating elements: a new forest strip oriented to the west extends into the built-up neighborhoods in the form of "green fingers," creating a natural environment. Three main axes, the forest path, the farm path, and the Vahrn promenade, run north-south, providing diverse access and attractive connections within the district.
