The Tiess playground project marks a joyful milestone for the community of Funes and the village of Tiess. After a year of collaborative effort, the new playground is now complete, bringing to life the creative ideas and wishes of local children, parents, artisans, and the municipality.
This LEADER-funded initiative began with active participation from the Tiess elementary school, local craftsmen, and residents. During a dedicated community workshop, children engaged in four creative stations where they designed, built models, and shared their visions for the playground. This inclusive process fostered a strong sense of ownership and enthusiasm for the project.
The Tiess playground stands as a successful example of participatory planning and sustainable development, where children’s creativity, community collaboration, and skilled craftsmanship come together to enrich village life.

Children participation
Using the feedback and ideas gathered during the participation day, the design team carefully evaluated existing play equipment from a technical perspective. Instead of replacing all elements, the plan emphasized repairing and enhancing well-preserved parts, respecting the community’s resources and sustainability goals. The children’s ideas were integrated into the final design in ways that were both imaginative and feasible.

Building phase
After a thorough planning phase, construction took approximately four weeks, resulting in a vibrant and engaging playground that reflects the community’s spirit. This project, led by the municipality of Villnöß, underscores the power of cooperative design and local involvement in creating public spaces that truly serve their users.
