Developed as part of an invited private competition, Die Waldweiler is a new residential neighborhood at the northern edge of Fürstenfeldbruck. Not a boundary between city and landscape. A transition.
The project is organized around five small hamlets: Oak, Beech, Maple, Linden, and Ash. Each centers on a semi-public courtyard offering space for play, gathering, and urban gardening. A central axis connects all five, forming the social and spatial backbone of the neighborhood. Inspired by traditional farmstead structures, the design balances density with openness, privacy with community.
Green corridors extend ecological systems into the urban fabric, serving as recreational routes, biodiversity networks, and climate buffers. Rainwater is managed through sponge city strategies: permeable surfaces and retention areas.
The car-free neighborhood prioritizes sustainable mobility and shared infrastructure. Two community hubs integrate mobility services, energy systems, and social amenities. Buildings are constructed in modular timber hybrid systems using bio-based materials, ensuring long-term energy efficiency and adaptability.
Die Waldweiler is a resilient neighborhood rooted in landscape and community. A living environment shaped collectively, from competition to construction.
